Jellyfish, starfish art sought for summer show at Mermaid Museum

The non-profit International Mermaid Museum at the Westport Winery is seeking art submissions for its summer show, “Sea Jellies and Sea Stars.”

A champagne reception and artist meet-and-greet event is scheduled for Friday, July 2, at 6 p.m. The reception is free to attend and open to all ages. The museum’s exhibition hall will be open to patrons and artists to tour in conjunction with the event.

Art pieces can be purchased throughout the show, which will last through September, by contacting the artist directly for payment. The art can be picked up at the end of the show. The museum does not take a commission on the sale; the display is part of the museum’s effort to support the local art community.

The museum will accept one piece per artist. The work can be in any medium. The subject must include sea stars (starfish) or sea jellies (jellyfish). This is a curated show limited to artists from Grays Harbor, Pacific, Wahkiakum, Jefferson, Clallam, Thurston, Mason and Lewis counties. Not all submissions will be accepted, due to space constraints.

Submissions are accepted until June 15 via email to info@mermaidmuseum.org. Submissions must include the artist’s name, address, phone number, a description of the medium, title of the submission, and price. All accepted submissions must be delivered to the museum by Monday, June 28 at 6 p.m.

The museum is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is on the grounds of Westport Winery Garden Resort, located halfway between Westport and Aberdeen at 1 S. Arbor Rd. in Aberdeen. Stay up to date on Facebook at facebook.com/westportwines and facebook.com/InternationalMermaidMuseum/, and on the museum’s website, mermaidmuseum.org.
