Private Jack A. Puljan recently conversed with King Peter of Yugoslavia, according to a V-mail letter received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Puljan of West Scott Street in Aberdeen.

It is believed Puljan met the king in London where King Peter maintains a government in exile. Since Puljan is of Croatian descent, it meant a great deal to him to meet the king, his mother said.

A $1.75 million shopping center called “Harbor Mall” may be open by this time next year in downtown Hoquiam.

Amid much backslapping, handshaking and general ebullience, Hoquiam councilmen last night discussed shopping center design with Auburn realtor David Morgan, who submitted a $230,000 bid on the 4 ½-block Urban Renewal parcel.

No other bids were received. And the city must secure the blessings of San Francisco UR headquarters before it awards the bid.

“We’re hoping for a restaurant, a variety store and a major department store — possibly two,” said Morgan. “If we get the bid, then we can really get to work on making contacts. Once the paperwork is complete, we can begin making concrete plans on what shops we want where, and such as that.”

The style is different, but the outcome remains the same for Montesano’s volleyballers.

The young Bulldogs notched their third win in as many starts by outsteadying previously unbeaten Elma, 15-5, 15-2, 7-15, 15-2, in a non-league meeting of East County rivals Thursday night at Montesano.

Two-time South Central League champion Montesano — which started two freshmen and only one senior — relied more on consistency than power in this one.

Having graduated standout hitters Megan Prkut and Miranda Plummer and with senior Kerry Rosenbach still recovering from mononucleosis, that’s a trend that may continue for awhile
