Tomorrow and Sunday are the last days canned or processed foods may be purchased without war ration book No. 2, ration officials said today. The “freeze” starts at midnight Sunday and continues until March 1, when point rationing will be inaugurated.

Food included in point rationing are:

1. All canned and bottled vegetables and fruits.

2. All canned and bottled vegetable and fruit juices and combinations.

3. All frozen vegetables and fruits.

4. All canned soups.

5. Catsup and chili sauce.

Rationing officials have declared today that the consumer must have the declaration slip published in The World, properly filled out, and war ration book No. 1 when registering for war ration book No. 2 next week.

• The United Stated admitted today that two American planes strayed over North Korea briefly on Sunday and expressed regret, with assurance that efforts would be made to prevent any more such incidents.

Rear Adm. John V. Smith said the pilots violated Communist air space because of bad weather, the pilots’ unfamiliarity with the terrain and a failure of navigational equipment.

“When they became aware of their location, they immediately took action to depart,” Smith said.

• John Stankus came down the home stretch at the last minute at Harbor Bowl last night to knock Warren Walker, a member of the exclusive Grays Harbor Men’s 700 Club, out of first place and capture the Hoquiam City scratch all-events title with a 1755 pinfall.

The theory is, you live or die with the three-point shot.

The South Bend Indians suffered near-mortal wounds by their own hand last night as they went 0 for 10 from downtown in the first half.

The Valley Vikings countered with aggressive defense and a dominating inside game to take home a 58-43 victory in winner’s bracket action in the district B boys’ basketball tournament at Montesano.

Valley head coach Darrell Miller singled out senior forward Jon Pearson for his leadership. Pearson and Ryan Austin shared rebounding honors with 13. Austin led the Vikings with 14 points, with teammates Kaech and Barnum adding 12 and 11, respectively.
