Three home fires in the past two months have finally forced William Hazen, 80-year-old recluse, to evacuate the wooded area north of Raymond where he has lived in seclusion for many years. His original home about a half mile from Highway 101 burned to the ground Sept. 20 and he moved to an adjacent shack which when up in flames Oct. 8. He subsequently moved to a third shack not far from the other two.
Mr. Hazen came to the local police station Saturday afternoon to tell of his plight. Officers said he consented to be hospitalized and he was taken to the Willapa Harbor Hospital for temporary care.
Since the first fire, local police, sheriff’s officers, service organizations and many sympathetic individuals have sought to aid the victim but he declined.
With no home to go to authorities expect Mr. Hazen will now consent to living in a rest home, veterans home or hospital.

Hoquiam junior Jon Parker was Grays Harbor’s lone state qualifier in the SW Washington District AA boys’ golf tournament Thursday at Tumwater Valley Golf Club.
Parker fired a four-over-par 76 to claim one of the district’s 13 state spots.
Aberdeen’s Phil Sayamnet and Matt Parks barely missed state berths with 79s. Chris Wandell carded an 81 and Greg Novak an 86.
