Disclosure today of coupon values of meat showed that Americans will be allowed, starting Monday, to buy a maximum of two pounds of popular-style steak or 3 1/2 pounds of hamburger per person per week under rationing.
Actually, most people will buy less because they will want to use some of the same coupons for butter, lard, cheese or canned fish.

• Ready or not. Like it or not. Wal-Mart is coming in Grays Harbor.
Jane Arend, director of public relations for Wal-Mart, told a packed house at the noontime Grays Harbor Chamber of commerce forum Tuesday that adherence to basic values is why the chain Sam Walton and his brother Bud founded in 1962 is opening a new store on average every three days.
It’s simple, she said. Offer quality merchandise at the lowest possible prices with incomparable customer service.
The Aberdeen store will be the first Wal-Mart to open in Western Washington. She expects the Aberdeen store to employ 245 full- and part-time employees. By October the local manager will likely arrive, advertising for job openings will begin and the store will likely open in November.

• Frantic brides and grooms, stressed-out parents and wedding gift hunters will find sources for all their wedding needs at the Harbor’s first local business bridal fair, Saturday, organizer Judi Lohr promises.
Lohr, who manages the historic Cosmopolis Cooney Mansion that will house the event, says she’s got some 30 businesses ranging from masseuses for stressed parents to ring bearer pillow makers.
• Deanne Pattison nearly made the historic first-ever Aberdeen-Hoquiam fast pitch meeting even more memorable.
Pattison pitched a one-hitter as the Bobcats thumped the Grizzlies, 15-0, in a Black Hills League contest Wednesday at Pioneer Park shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule.
Pattison was within four outs of authoring Aberdeen’s first fast pitch no-hitter when Kami Graham looped a two-out single to right center in the fourth inning.
The hard-throwing junior right-hander struck out nine — including the final four Grizzlies — and didn’t walk a batter.
