Hot day, hotter cars at Historic Montesano Car Show

There were 248 entries at the 17th annual Historic Montesano Car Show, up from last year’s total. All manner of classic cars lined Main Street and branched out onto East and West Broadway and down First Street, drawing hundreds of spectators on a warm, cloudless Saturday.

More than 50 awards were presented in the afternoon, including Montesano Mayor Vini Samuel’s nod for her favorite, Tom Skinner’s 1929 Buick. The Police Chief’s Choice award went to Chuck Jenkins for his 1971 Chevelle, the Fire Chief’s to Jerry Tech’s 1965 F-250, and the Lake Sylvia Ranger’s Choice to Joe Rogerson and his 1966 Mustang.

Taking the People’s Choice Award was a 1962 Impala entered by Jason Meneely. The Participant’s Choice Award went to Carol Wiss and her 1953 Crown Victoria.

There was a lot going on Saturday in downtown Montesano. Along with the hundreds of classic cars, the kids got to enjoy the annual Summer Kidsfest in Fleet Park. There were bounce houses and inflatable slides, face painting, and a Home Depot craft table. The Montesano Fire Department had its trucks parked on First Street, and kids were welcome to explore the big rigs and even try their hand at hitting a target with a fire hose.

The Saturday Morning Market and its vendors moved their variety of wares to West Marcy Avenue for the day.
