The student body president of Grays Harbor College has been named to the All-USA Community College Academic Team.
Yulisa Morelia is one of 20 students from across the country who will be honored April 24 at the American Association of Community Colleges convention in New Orleans. GHC is covering Morelia’s travel expenses.
“Everyone at GHC is so proud of Yulisa and happy for her family,” GHC President Jim Minkler said in a prepared statement. “This national recognition has never happened for a GHC student before, and we all agree that Yulisa is an outstanding, most deserving representative for GHC.”
Phi Theta Kappa will present the award in New Orleans. Morelia also is being awarded a $5,000 scholarship by Follett Higher Education Group, which sponsors the national team.
With a 3.84 grade-point average, Morelia will graduate from GHC this spring with an Associate of Science in pre-nursing. She plans to transfer into a bachelor’s degree program at a four-year college and work toward becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner.
GHC also nominated Human Services student Brandi Webb for the national academic team. As members of Washington’s All-State team, both Morelia and Webb were honored recently in Olympia.
