North Beach High School’s field played host to the eighth annual Woof-a-Thon event Saturday as dog owners around the area took their four-legged friends for a few laps around the track.
Ocean Shores Woof-a-Thon is a nonprofit that raises money throughout the year to benefit animal-related charities such as local non-kill shelters and various rescue services.
A year of fundraising culminates in the event held the second Saturday in August, when dog owners can see demonstrations from dog trainers and talk to vendors providing dog-related services.
Woof-a-Thon President Patrick Spike said he was glad to see the event run smoothly. He took the helm after his mother, Woof-a-Thon founder Wilma Spike, died last year.
“I stepped in to take everything over to get everything back on its feet and make sure it was going to be her legacy for a while,” he said.
