Driftwood Players in Aberdeen are preparing to open their next production: “Still Life with Iris.”
The play, written by Steven Dietz and directed by Alex Eddy, is a fantasy in two acts for all ages. It will be presented at the Driftwood Playhouse in Aberdeen every weekend from April 22 through May 14 (with just one Sunday matinee, on the final day).
Iris lives with her mom in the land of Nocturno, a magical place where the workers make, by night, all of the things we see in the world by day. In Nocturno, memories do not reside in people’s minds, but instead are kept in their coats (called Past Coats).
The rulers of Nocturno are determined to have the best of everything on their island, so they take Iris away from her home to be their daughter. To ease the pain of this separation, they remove her Past Coat, leaving her with no memory of her home or family.
Iris is left with a single button from her coat. Using it as a clue, she and her newfound friends search for home.
Tickets are available for $15 through the theater’s website, aberdeendriftwood.com. They also may be purchased in advance at City Center Drug in Aberdeen, Valu Drug in Montesano, Harbor Drug in Hoquiam, and Delores’ and Fay’s in Ocean Shores.
