Longtime Harborites Doug and Jan Simons will celebrate 50 years of marriage on Thursday.

The couple met in the late 1960s while Doug was stationed in Pensacola, Florida.

Doug received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and worked for U.S. Fish and Wildlife and the Washington Department of Fisheries in Aberdeen. Jan coached the YMCA swim team and continues to coach the Aberdeen High School girls swim team. As a couple, they worked as camp and facility directors for Camp Bishop for almost 10 years.

They have a son, Jay, who lives in San Francisco; a daughter, April, who lives in Central Park; and five grandchildren.
