Celebrating shared history: Myrtle Street Dance

Music, dancing and history took center stage at the Myrtle Street Dance on Saturday on the border of Aberdeen and Hoquiam.

Live music played most of the day with a brief intermission later in the afternoon, allowing for a trivia competition between Aberdeen Mayor Erik Larson and Hoquiam Mayor Jasmine Dickhoff. Larson and Dickhoff were each aided by three other community membersa as each team attempted to answer questions about the other team’s city. Team Hoquiam came away with an 8-6 victory.

To celebrate the history, John Larson from the Polson Museum in Hoquiam had a booth that displayed old photos from Electric Park, used to be located where the Grays Harbor PUD is. Electric Park included a multipurpose sports field, a swimming pool, a railway system and other features pubicly available to the communities of Aberdeen and Hoquiam.
