Boshear takes top spot in 2017 Vern Coverdale Westport Boat Basin Salmon Derby

13.93-pound silver earned first place; all top three fish topped 13 pounds

Mike Coverdale of Westport last week announced the winners of the 2017 Vern Coverdale Westport Boat Basin Salmon Derby, which was named after his father, an avid angler.

Taking first place was Bill Swaney with a 13.93-pound coho salmon. His prize included a two-night stay at the Westport Marina Cottages, a $50 gift certificate from Aloha Alabama, a T-shirt from Ocean Sportfishing Charters and a baseball cap from the Port of Grays Harbor.

Second place went to Fred Boshear (pictured at left) for a 13.2-pound coho. The second-place prize package included a $25 gift certificate to Blue Buoy Restaurant, an insulated gear bag and baseball cap from the Port of Grays Harbor and a T-shirt from the Windrider Kite Festival.

Jeremie Cook took third place with a 13.1-pound coho. His prize package included a $25 gift certificate from Blue Buoy Restaurant, a gear bag from Westport Marina, a crab trap and ruler from Englund Marine and T-shirts from Tides & Anchors Boutique.
