Aberdeen Lions celebrate achievements

More than 80 Aberdeen Lions and their guests recently met at the Rotary Log Pavilion in Aberdeen.

In October 1917, Melvin Jones founded the first Lions Club in the United States and Lions Clubs international recognizes outstanding individuals by bestowing on them an award that it named for its founder. This fellowship award is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of “Lionism.”

Greg Johnstone of Hoquiam received the Lion of the Year award for last year, while this year’s recipient was Steve Beck of Aberdeen.

Longtime Aberdeen Lions Club members Harold Warren and Gene Schermer were awarded membership pins, Warren having been a member for 55 years and Schermer for 40 years.
