5 Harbor students chosen for music scholarships

The Grays Harbor Music Teachers Association has selected five music scholarship recipients for 2020.

GHMTA music scholarships are available to eligible students from Grays Harbor and Pacific counties who are majoring or minoring in music or musical theater at any college. Students submit an application form along with transcripts, letters of recommendation and other information.

Based upon the applications received this year, the scholarship committee chose these students:Amanda Ransom will receive $2,000. She plans continue her major in music at Grays Harbor College and then transfer to Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.

Allison Patterson will receive $2,000. She is graduating this month from Aberdeen High School and plans to major in music at Whitworth University in Spokane.

Ben Fagerstedt will receive $1,500. He plans to continue his minor in music at Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland.

Kyrsten Campbell will receive $750. She is graduating this month from Montesano Jr./Sr. High School and plans to major in music at Pacific Lutheran University.

Keegan Stigall will receive $500. He is graduating this month from Hoquiam High School and plans to major in music at Grays Harbor College, then transfer to Central Washington University in Ellensburg.

The nonprofit group raises scholarship money through its annual Musicale scholarship benefit concert, traditionally held on the third Saturday in January at Aberdeen First Presbyterian Church. The scholarship amounts vary from year to year, depending on donations from the community.
