APD officer made an impression

At a time when First Responders are under attack and being criticized for every action they take, I take great pleasure in recognizing an outstanding Aberdeen police officer, Officer Steve Gonzalez.

A couple of weeks ago, while at Safeway, the young toddler under my care was admiring the police vehicle that was parked outside in the parking lot.

When Officer Gonzalez returned to his vehicle and saw the extreme interest in law enforcement this young toddler has, he took the time to engage in some positive conversations and interactions with him by showing him various aspects of his vehicle, uniform, along with the duties and responsibilities of his job.

This display of humanity by Officer Gonzalez, not only was appreciated by me, but also by many patrons who stopped to watch the exchanges between the two of them. His generosity did not stop there, as a week later he made a surprise visit to the daycare to check up on my buddy and all his friends. The joy he brought to these young citizens and all the citizens who witnessed his generosity and kind heart will be forever implanted in their memories.

Thank you, Officer Gonzalez, for showing us the compassion our first responders have and reminding us how important you are in our community.
