Aberdeen should preserve history of Pourhouse

The Pourhouse building in Aberdeen is a historic place with a connection to Kurt Cobain and Nirvana, music artists known worldwide. Fans travel here long distances from many nations around the world, as well as those in our country, to visit and see where the group was from.

City officials are always saying there need to be interesting places in Aberdeen so tourists will stop and spend time. The Pourhouse is one of those places here right now, but they want to demolish it. That is extremely puzzling. If the Pourhouse got the needed repairs, it would be an attraction and place of interest for many tourists and local residents. It seems the Pourhouse structure would be something to keep instead of some being so anxious to tear it down. People like to be in the same location or building as the people they are fans of were. That is why the Young Street bridge area is so popular.

Once the Pourhouse is demolished, the significance is lost, and it cannot be replaced. Just maybe putting some photos and Nirvana items into a new building sometime in the future really would not have the same meaning. Any decision to tear down the Pourhouse should be given a lot more thought and viewpoints from the public considered as well.
