U.S. officials play down hopes for Trump-Putin meeting

By Ros Krasny and Jennifer A. Dlouhy

Louis Krauss | The Daily World Steve Shumate is sworn in as Aberdeen’s new police chief during Wednesday’s Aberdeen City Council meeting. Around 20 different law enforcement officials attended the swearing in. Shumate said he “looks forward to working with the citizens of Aberdeen to make it a safer place,” and thanked members of the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office, where he worked for 29 years. “I think I look good in blue. But as the sheriff has mentioned, apparently, I bleed green.” Shumate is replacing former Chief Bob Torgerson who retired in 2017, and Deputy Chief Dave Timmins who’s been the interim chief since.
