Hoquiam city council approves purchases from Emmert

The Hoquiam City Council voted to purchase eight properties from Emmert Silver City, LLC., for $1.35 million.

World Music Day unites Aberdeen

It was a whirlwind on Friday in downtown Aberdeen.

Rick Moyer of Moyer Multi Media LLC. World Music Day won’t just be for famous musicians to land in Aberdeen and play for what is expected to receive a lot of fanfare. It’ll mark the first glimpse of the “Unplugged” space inside The Music Project building — 121 W. Wishkah St. Lee and Dani Bacon, plus other “essential” workers, have been working tirelessly in order to make the space available for music lovers. The sign to the right that reads “Grungeology” will be seen as people head from “The Green Room” to “Unplugged.” At the end of the hallway is the iconic highway sign that the late-Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic once made famous with a photo decades ago.

Matthew N. Wells / The Daily World World Music Day 2023 saw tens of musicians and music enthusiasts arrive on South K Street, pictured, and West Wishkah Street. The musicians played acoustically on the sidewalks. This year however, World Music Day 2024 is going through “unbridled growth,” according to Wil Russoul, one of the main organizers for the event, which will feature Rock & Roll Hall of Fame musicians, international musicians, and “more surprises” who are on the way. The event has outgrown its two-street size, as Don Stone will perform at Westport Winery, and other venues throughout Aberdeen will host shows.

There’s a substantial funding gap between the $23 million in grants the city received for the bridge replacement and the cost of option 2B. “If (the) city is able to secure commitment for approximately $10 million additional private funding prior to the June 26, 2024 city council meeting, city staff will recommend Option 2B as (the) preferred alternative,” stated one of the boards that showed information about the costs for the bridge alternatives.
