Furniture World adds second location in Aberdeen

New ‘World’ across the street is spread out among four roomy floors

Furniture World in downtown Aberdeen is expanding. Kitty-corner from their 217 S. Broadway St. location. owner Jeff Raymond said the 25,000-square-feet, four-story space at 101 East Heron St. will be known as “Furniture World 2.”

The established store,”Furniture World 1” is a clearance center, while the new space offers items at a variety of price ranges, Raymond said.

As of last week, the new location was amid set-up that was 90-95 percent complete. It will open officially in October.

“We’re real excited,” Raymond said. “People have been coming in and they’ve been buying furniture. We’re very pleased and we think this is going to be a good addition for us.”

Its floor space isn’t as tightly arranged as is common for the industry. Raymond said last week that he liked the more open atmosphere and might even adopt it long-term.

“It’s easier to see what’s in the entire store,” he said.

That includes accessories, such as lighting, artwork and other items that allow people to make their homes unique.

Raymond said there are furniture styles more popular in the Pacific Northwest than in other parts of the country.

“People here prefer conservative, warm-looking furniture. And pieces that are overstuffed,” he said. “Motion furniture does well here, too.”

The latter category includes recliners —chairs and sofas. Lift chairs are becoming more popular as baby boomers age.

And the new store offers plenty of recliners and lifts from which to choose, he said.

Raymond also explained along with a wide selection that good service and competitive pricing has been important to building good relationships with customers.

“We’ve been in business for about 30 years,” he said. “And Aberdeen is a very important location for us. That’s why we’ve made a commitment here.”

Raymond has stores in eight Western Washington locations from Vancouver to Oak Harbor.

“Aberdeen is coming around economically,” said Raymond, who lives in Mill Creek. “We like helping to generate a positive feeling in the community and having a strong presence in the downtown.”
