Deegan and Burke retire from Timberland Bank

Grays Harbor PUD Energy Services Department moving to new location

As of Monday, the Grays Harbor PUD Energy Services Department will be housed in the PUD Dennis Nichols Building located at 220 Myrtle St., Hoquiam. The Energy Services Department addresses questions regarding energy conservation, residential and commercial energy efficiency rebates, appliance rebates, home weatherization, heat pumps, energy audits and more, and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, closed from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. daily for lunch.

As a part of this relocation, the Board of Commissioners’ offices will be moving into the Administration Department in the main building located at 2720 Sumner Ave., Aberdeen. Regular meetings of the Board of Commissioners will continue to be held in the Nichols Building meeting room.

Janet Deegan and Denise Burke retire from Timberland Bank

Senior Vice Presidents Janet Deegan and Denise Burke will retire from Timberland Bank on Oct. 22 after more than 20 years with the bank.

Deegan, a resident of Aberdeen, joined Timberland Bank in 1991, when the bank had five branch locations. Deegan was promoted to vice president in 2006 and earned the title of senior vice president and residential loan manager in 2017. Upon retirement, Deegan looks forward to spending more time with her grandchildren, in her garden and crafting.

Burke joined Timberland Bank in 1997 as the marketing director. By that time, the bank had expanded to eight branches and approximately $211 million in assets. She was promoted to vice president in 2006 and earned the title of senior vice president in 2017.

Now, as Deegan and Burke prepare to log off their computers for the final time, the bank has grown to 22 branch locations and approximately $1 billion in assets.

A retirement reception is planned for Deegan and Burke on Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the Hoquiam branch, 624 Simpson Ave. The public is invited to attend.

The Grays Harbor County Department of Tourism is looking to give money away.

There are three different grants that qualified nonprofits in Grays Harbor County can apply for: Festival and Event grant, Tourism Services and Projects grant and Major Tourism Projects grant. Applications are due by Oct. 19.

“We are very fortunate that our County Commissioners have continued to support the funding of this grant program,” Kelly Peterson-Lalka, public relations manager for Grays Harbor Tourism, said in a news release. “Tourism results in more than $260 million of revenue and over 5,000 jobs for Grays HarborCounty.”

The Grays Harbor Tourism Office hands out more than $300,000 in grant funds annually, accordingto the release.
