Thomas Edward Morrissey

Thomas Edward Morrissey was born on Feb. 17, 1954, in Forest City, Iowa and was a local resident of the Hoquiam, Washington community. He passed away on Feb. 26, 2023. He was fondly known by family and friends as “Mot.” Tom suddenly became ill on Feb. 15, and was transferred from a local ER to a hospital in Portland, Oregon, suffering from septic shock. Tom, as he always did, fought hard.

Tom was raised on a large farm in Kingsley, Iowa and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He attended Gehlen High School, LeMars, Iowa and Northwest Iowa Community College, Sheldon, Iowa, graduating with a degree in agriculture. In 1993, Tom graduated with a drafting and engineering degree from St. Martin’s University, Lacey, Washington.

In 1978, Tom ventured to the Pacific Northwest and continued to live his passion for the outdoors and wildlife. When Tom wasn’t cleaning clams, hunting for mushrooms or smoking salmon, he was in the kitchen cooking up his famous dishes. Tom was quite the chef! He had an extensive cookbook collection which he was always scanning for unusual wildlife recipes. Tom was remembered in the community for his annual pig roasts and catering. Every family fathering was a feast like you could only imagine — fresh caught wild salmon, seafood, steaks grilled to perfection; in the morning there were omelets and Bloody Mary’s you couldn’t find anywhere like Tom would serve.

Tom was a talented craftsman. Working for several contractors in the Grays Harbor area before starting his own business in 2000. Tom owned and operated Tom Morrissey Construction for over 20 years, making most of his customers lifelong friends. Tom was trusted for his workmanship, honesty and quality of work. Tom retired in 2020 turning his business over to his trusted and talented foreman, Justin LaDue. Tom had spent the last two years enjoying life, traveling with his wife, fishing with his daughter, visiting family and friends, and most of all not having a schedule.

Tom is preceded by his son, Patrick and parents, Robert and Ruth Morrissey. He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Sheri; loving daughter, Kayla; and seven siblings: Kathy, Eileen, Kevin, Mary Jo, Ellen, Margaret and Rob. Tom was an unforgettable force in so many people’s lives. He was bold and honest and outspoken, but always generous, thoughtful and kind. Tom lived life to the fullest, hard and fast, without fear.

Tom was a huge supporter of Aberdeen High School SkillsUSA program. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Aberdeen High School SkillsUSA.
