Alice N. Phelps

Alice N. Phelps, 75, former Aberdeen Ward 2 Councilwoman, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, at her home in Montesano, Washington.
Alice was born on Feb. 23, 1947, in Vancouver, Washington to James and Muriel (Ludwig) Dale. From Vancouver they moved to Matlock where she grew up and during her junior year of high school they moved to Hoquiam. She graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1966.
On Sept. 30, 1967, Alice married Jack Edward Phelps in Copalis Crossing Assembly of God Church. Jack died Feb. 10, 2015. She lived in Copalis Crossing until 1973 when they moved to Aberdeen.
Following Jack’s death, Alice was reunited with an old friend, Kevin Lachiondo.
Alice was elected to the Aberdeen City Council in 1997 representing Ward 2 in North Aberdeen. She enjoyed this job and standing up for those she represented. She was also a paper carrier for The Daily World for over 20 years. She answered the evening phones for Fern Hill Funeral Home for 30 years. She worked at St. Mary’s Catholic School in their morning ESS program. She was her daughter’s Blue Jays Leader, and Bluebirds and Campfire Leader for many years. She was a member of the Grays Harbor YMCA. She enjoyed sewing, canning and gardening in her spare time.
Alice is survived by her son David Phelps of Aberdeen; her daughter Alice Ann Garrow of Aberdeen; brother Tom Dale of Matlock, a sister Neville Rodriguez of Castle Rock, Washington; and two grandchildren: Arrin Garrow and Corbin Phelps.
There will be a celebration of Alice’s life on Monday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. in Fern Hill Funeral Home’s chapel. A reception and potluck will follow in the Dorothy Mann Reception Hall at Fern Hill Funeral Home.
Cremation arrangements are by Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Washington.
