Steven Luellen was born June 15, 1957, to Jess and Jackie Luellen, and called home Dec. 28, 2021.

Steve was raised in Montesano and Elma. He graduated from Elma High School in 1975.

In his earlier years, Steve raced Motocross fearlessly and won many first-place spots. On Christmas Eve, 1983, Steve married Cindy Jones on the same day the Seahawks won their first playoff game in the Kingdome.

Steve was one of the last of the Simpson Camp Grisdale loggers, before Simpson ended operations in 1985. He worked as a loader operator. He then went to work for Comfort and Bosler Logging, where he worked for many years. After the company retired, Steve went to work for Jack Dilley Logging. Steve left the woods and went to work at the Port of Tacoma before retirement. Steve got a little bored, so he decided to go to work for Elma School District transportation where he made new friends. In 2010, Steve attended GHC and earned an Associates Degree in human services.

In 2015, he was inducted into the Babe Ruth Hall of Fame. Steve coached many youth sports for over 40 years including soccer, Little League baseball, Babe Ruth, fastpitch, as well as youth and middle school wrestling. He coached many kids in his community of Elma, including his own children. He was very proud to be a part of coaching his granddaughters in soccer and fastpitch.

Steve loved to be with his family most of all. Taking family camping trips and having them all for dinner and barbecues.

Steve enjoyed going to the World of Outlaws sprint car races. He traveled to watch them in Skagit County; Cottage Grove, Oregon; Queens Creek, Arizona; and Chico and Stockton, California, and most of all watching them in his hometown. He enjoyed going to Spring training in Arizona to watch the Mariners play and was looking forward to going back.

Steve took his grandchildren on many vacations, including Disneyland, San Diego and Maui; they were his world and he was the rock of his family.

Steve was involved with the Grays Harbor Raceway in many different capacities over the years, most recently being a Race Director, which he really loved a lot. He also loved fish and camp as well as watching the Seahawks and the Mariners.

Steve leaves behind his wife Cindy; two sons Randell (Suzy) and Russell( Amanda); daughter Stephanie and son-in -law Richard Trudel; three very special granddaughters: Annika, Jordan and Dakota; and mother-in-law Betty Jones. He also leaves behind many old and new friends. Jack Dilley and Virgil Ochsner were two of his closest friends.

There will be a celebration of life Jan. 16, 2022, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Grays Harbor Fairground pavilion with face masks required while not eating or drinking.

Donations are suggested to the Elma wrestling fund at any branch of Our Community Credit Union.
