Studio Tour & Auction raises $6,400

The annual Tokeland Art Studio Tour and Auction reached new heights May 4.

Tour attendance was higher than normal — “partly thanks to the weather, and signage was better,” said event organizer Sandy Prosser, a board member of the Tokeland-North Cove Chamber of Commerce. “The artists that did the live demonstrations in weaving, yarn spinning, en caustic photograph painting and pottery were pleased with the crowd interest, interactions and questions about their craft.”

The auction, which serves as a fundraiser for the Ocosta Jr./Sr. High School’s art program, had record attendance and brought in $6,400.

Before the auction began, a moment of silence was observed for Emily Maldonado, who passed away May 2. She was a physician assistant and healer at the Shoalwater Bay Tribal Clinic. She also created jewelry, knitted and was a strong supporter of local arts.

“Her sudden departure from us has shocked the community,” said Prosser. “She will be greatly missed.”
