If attending the Home and Garden Show earlier this spring or visiting the WSU Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at the Grays Harbor Fairgrounds prompted an interest in learning more about becoming a Master Gardener, now is the time to apply to the program.

The WSU Extension Master Gardener Program is accepting applications for its 2026-2027 class, and the program is open to individuals interested in becoming volunteers and sharing gardening and horticulture knowledge with the general public through community outreach. Extension Master Gardener volunteers engage with communities to support stewardship of our soil, water and wildlife, and contribute to food security by using sustainable gardening practices. The program welcomes applicants of all experience levels and backgrounds who are passionate about increasing their gardening knowledge and giving back to communities through volunteer service.

Master Gardener training is now held each year, beginning in the fall. The training covers topics from the basics of botany and soils to the complexities of entomology and plant disease recognition. The training consists of two parts – online modules through WSU Extension and local hands-on activities.
