Jon Wahl

Jon Wahl, legendary Washington high school football coach and multi-sport athlete, passed away on Oct. 9, 2025. He was known throughout Washington state as one of the most successful and respected high school coaches in history.

Born and raised in southwest Washington, Jon was an outstanding athlete in football and basketball at Ocosta and Aberdeen high schools. He went on to play college football at Whitworth College in Spokane, a highly successful program. His natural leadership, athleticism, and competitive drive carried him into a remarkable coaching career that inspired generations of young athletes.

As head football coach at Raymond High School, Wahl led his teams to an unprecedented 41-game winning streak — a record that made statewide headlines and became a lasting symbol of discipline and excellence. Over the course of his career, he coached at Wishkah Valley, Raymond, W.F. West, Hoquiam, and Ocosta High Schools, earning a reputation for toughness, preparation, and genuine care for his players.

With a career record of 150-50-1 over 22 seasons, including five state championships in 10 years at Raymond High School, Wahl’s teams were consistent contenders and models of sportsmanship. His leadership earned him induction into the Washington State Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame, where he is honored among the state’s great coaches.

Beyond the field, Jon was remembered for his mentorship, humility, and humor. He inspired his players not only to win games but to succeed in life — emphasizing integrity, teamwork, and resilience in all they did.

He is survived by his wife, Patsey Wahl; his children, Tom, Tim, and Teresa; and his grandchildren, Jessica, Chris, Eric, Brian, Matthew, and Jon. He leaves behind a legacy carried on by the many athletes, students, and coaches whose lives he touched.
