U.S. Highway 101 paving near Humptulips starts Aug. 17 Travelers should add 15 minutes to daytime trips

People will soon see work to improve the driving surface of U.S. Highway 101 near Humptulips.

Starting Monday, Aug. 17, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin work to pave areas of U.S. Highway 101 between Humptulips and Neilton.

Travelers will see one-way alternating traffic from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday. Crews will begin on northbound U.S. Highway 101 near Donkey Creek Road and work north toward Neilton. Work zones will shift as crews finish each section of roadway.

A pilot car will guide traffic through a single lane. People can expect increased travel times and should consider adding up to 15 minutes for trips.

This work is connected to a larger preservation project that began in June near Queets.

This paving project will improve approximately 46 miles of U.S. Highway 101 in Grays Harbor County between Ocean Beach Road and the Jefferson County line.

Pavement preservation work will maintain the structural integrity of these sections of roadway for years to come. The $31.4 million project is expected to be completed sometime this fall.

Paving work will occur in three sections of U.S. Highway 101 in the following paving order:

Haas Road to the Jefferson County line south of Queets, between mileposts 130 and 152

Donkey Creek Road to Burn Road, between mileposts 112 and 123

Ocean Beach Road to East Humptulips Road, between mileposts 92 and 109

Contractor crews are removing and replacing worn asphalt along both directions of U.S. Highway 101. Mobile operations are working on the north end of the project between Queets and Lake Quinault, between mileposts 130 and 152.

When this section of paving is finished, crews will move to the last section of U.S. Highway 101 near New London. That work is expected to wrap up in October.
