Peggy Lee Bearden, a longtime resident of Ocosta, died Friday, May 20, 2022, at Montesano Health and Rehab. She was born on Jan. 10, 1932, in Westport, Washington to Al and Myrtle (Wilkins) Ashby.

Peggy was a 1950 Ocosta High School graduate. Soon after she joined a group of friends and went to Cordova, Alaska to work at a crab cannery. It was there she met and fell in love with Fred Bearden, and they were married on Nov. 11, 1950. They settled in Ocosta and raised four sons, enjoying and watching them participate in sports, never missing a game. Together they owned and operated Bearden’s Pancake House in Westport for over 25 years, retiring in 1993. They enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states, and spending their winters in Earp, California.

Some of Peggy’s hobbies and activities were bowling, clam digging, bingo, knitting and playing cards, especially cribbage with Fred as their morning routine during breakfast. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and South Beach Christian Center.

Peggy is survived by her sons: Kelly (Judy) Bearden of Ocosta, Rob (Hillary) Bearden of Westport and Ken (Jene’e) Bearden of Ocosta; nine grandchildren: Kirk and Jesse Bearden, Dianne Minnehan, Scott Manchester, Sean and Jimmy Bearden; Hannah, Grayson and Ollie Bearden; 10 great-grandchildren: Hayden and Rudy Bearden, Brittney and Brayden Amundsen, Cole and Luke Manchester, Andrew and Evan Bearden and Ruby and Alice Bearden; one great-great-grandson Easton Rockmore; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were husband Fred Bearden in 2008 and son Billy (Claudia) of Westport in 2011.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at one o’clock, at the Ocosta Rec. Hall.
