MONTESANO — Five players scored at least eight points as Montesano easily remained unbeaten.

Zoe Hutchings contributed 16 points and seven rebounds, while Zoee Lisherness added 14 points and six boards for the Bulldogs (4-0). Samantha Stanfield also yanked down seven rebounds.

Down 9-8 in the early going, the Bulldogs came out of a timeout with a 9-0 run triggered by Stanfield’s 3-point basket. Montesano led 47-25 at the half and limited Rochester to 10 second-half points.

“After a slow start, we really played hard for the rest of the game,” Monte coach Julie Graves said. “We really buckled down and played great defense in the second half and we shared the ball well on offense.”

Lisherness handed out six assists and Glory Grubb five. Katie Granstrom swiped five steals and Hannah Hatcher four for Montesano.

The Bulldogs host Castle Rock in the second half of a co-ed doubleheader Friday.

RAYMOND— Breaking open a tight game in the second half, Life Christian Academy downed Raymond in a Pacific League game Wednesday at Raymond.

The Gulls trailed only by only four, 23-19, at halftime but tallied only five points in the second half.

“As a team, we shot 13 percent and that kind of percentage won’t give you a chance against a very physical and athletic team,” Raymond coach Jason Koski said. “As a team, I thought we made improvement from our previous game and as a coach that’s all you can ask from your kids.”

Hannah Miller played a fine all-around game for the Gulls, with seven points and six rebounds. She was also cited for strong defense. Makenna Williams had five rebounds for the Gulls (0-2, 0-4).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Hawks 72, Bobcats 70

River Ridge came from behind in the fourth quarter to nip Aberdeen in a non-league contest Wednesday at Sam Benn Gym.

The Bobcats (1-2) led most of the way, taking a 55-49 advantage into the fourth quarter. But floor leader Ben Dublanko fouled out in the late going and the Hawks scored 23 points in a back-and-forth final stretch.

“Conditioning seemed to play a factor in the fourth quarter,” AHS coach Mark Buckman noted. “Down the stretch, (we) committed too many costly errors and had too many missed opportunities.”

Three River Ridge guards combined for 50 points, led by Marquan Cannon’s 20.

Dublanko finished with 23 points, five rebounds and five assists. Alonzo Coburn tallied 11 points, four steals and three assists. Derrell Shale and Cody Sayres grabbed seven rebounds apiece.

GIRLS BOWLING

Bobcats third

TUMWATER — Things did not go well for Aberdeen’s bowlers as they placed third behind Black Hills and Chehalis in a three-team meet Wednesday at Tumwater.

Black Hills came from behind to defeat Chehalis with the Bobcats struggling in third place. Aberdeen lost both both team games and both Baker games while falling well below its previous total.

Bobcats coach David Bruncke said he was frustrated by the loss, considering the team’s recent success.

“To go from our best game in our two-year history to our worst game this year was frustrating for all,” he said. “The girls are all looking forward to some practice time before the next match to work out some of the issues from today.”

Syndi Tingwall led the Bobcats with a 273 total for two games. She also had Aberdeen’s high game of 139.

Aberdeen — Meghan Howell 122-137 — 259, Sydni Tingwall 139-134 — 273, Bailee Green 134-91 — 225, Kaitlyn Martin 100-92 — 192, Annabelle Micheau 92-90 — 182.
