CASTLE ROCK — Scoring twice in the opening five minutes, Hoquiam went on to thump Castle Rock in a non-league contest Thursday at Castle Rock.

Hoquiam’s first two goals came off rebounds. Judy Renteria converted the rebound of her own shot in the second minute and Alexis Wonderly followed up a Renteria attempt three minutes later.

Taylor Strom put in an 18-yard shot in the 18th minute and Emma Skinner beat the goalkeeper on a one-on-one opportunity to give Hoquiam (2-4) a 4-0 halftime lead. Renteria assisted on the latter goal.

Hoquiam’s Casey Mode connected from 15 yards out in the 63rd minute. Castle Rock spoiled the shutout five minutes later.

Grizzly coach Drew Grannemann labeled it his team’s finest performance of the season.

“We tried a different formation and worked a lot on communication,” Grannemann said. “We worked as a unit instead of individual parts.”

Midfielder Renteria and defender Jordan Cox were cited for fine play.

The Grizzlies visit rival Aberdeen for a noon contest on Saturday.

Bulldogs 3, Cougars 0

MONTESANO — Limiting Seton Catholic to few scoring chances, Montesano blanked the Cougars in a non-league contest Thursday at Rottle Field.

Goalkeepers Haylee Perkinson and Noelle Tingey combined for the shutout. Winning coach Mike Malpass also credited the solid defensive play of Hallie Stubb, Morgan Kersker, Katie Granstrom and Annie Cristelli.

Sophomore Glory Grubb tallied Montesano’s lone first-half goal. Cheyann Bartlett made it 2-0 by connecting from a difficult angle.

Samantha Stanfield closed out the scoring by hitting a free kick from 23 yards out.

“Everybody got to play and I thought they played well,” Malpass said. “We have to work on possession, connecting passes a little more.”

The Bulldogs travel to Redmond to face Overlake on Saturday.

Pirates 4, Wildcats 0

WESTPORT — Unbeaten Adna wore down Ocosta in a Central League match Thursday at Westport.

The Wildcats (1-3, 3-3) denied the Pirates for nearly the entire first half. But Adna remained on the attack in breaking it open with goals in the 36th, 60th and 79th minutes.

Ocosta goalkeeper Kristi Raffelson made 22 saves.

“We were on the defensive 90 percent of the match,” Wildcat coach Mike King said. “They’re unbeaten and probably the top No. 1 team in the state.”

Ocosta’s Mercedes Denny and Elliott Watkins were credited with strong defense.

The Wildcats visit Napavine in a 7 p.m. match Tuesday.
