Izatt honored as wrestling ref

Longtime Grays Harbor referee Jay Izatt has received the Washington Officials Association’s Wrestling Official of the Year award.

Izatt was honored earlier this month in Yakima. A Hoquiam High graduate who now lives in Central Park, Izatt has officiated wrestling for more than 30 years and has been selected to work in several state tournaments.

Choker coach to compete at world mat tourney

Grays Harbor College wrestling coach Phil Pine will compete in the veterans division of the World Wrestling Championships, scheduled for Oct. 13 at Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Pine has entered the 100-kilogram (220 pounds) division in freestyle. He earned a bronze medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 2015 world championships in Greece.
