Robert Gray Blue wins youth hoops tourney; Two local prep athletes named Athlete of Week

Robert Gray team wins grade-school basketball tourney

The Robert Gray Blue teamd defeated McDermoth Red 40-36 to win the championship game of the 5th/6th grade basketball tournament on Saturday at Aberdeen High School.

Twelve teams, 10 from Aberdeen and two from Hoquiam, competed in the double-elimination tournament.

Two local athletes named to WIAA Athletes of the Week list

Elma’s Jalyn Sackrider and Taholah’s Nettie Mail were named to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s Athletes of the Week list for Week 23.

Jalyn Sackrider, Elma, Sr. — Sackrider helped her team win the district championship by scoring 19 (Castle Rock), 21 (Stevenson) and 14 points in the championship game against King’s Way Christian. Additionally, she averaged 10 rebounds and three blocks per game for the tournament.

Nettie Mail, Taholah, Sr. — Mail contributed to her team’s district championship with her leadership and strong performances. She was also voted first team all-league.
