Former Grays Harbor, NFL great Sherk named to NWAC Hall of Fame

Former GHC, NFL great Sherk to be inducted into NWAC Hall of Fame

Former Grays Harbor College student-athlete and NFL great Jerry Shrek will be inducted into the Northwest Athletic Conference’s 2019 Hall of Fame class at a ceremony scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Red Lion Hotel located at 2300 Evergreen Park Dr. SW, Olympia.

Shrek played both football and wrestled while attending Grays Harbor College and led the Chokers to two-straight state titles from 1967-68.

In that two-year span, Shrek also won consecutive individual titles, pinning every opponent he faced in the 1968 season.

After leaving GHC, Sherk attended Oklahoma State, where he became an All-Big 8 football selection and an All-American wrestler in 1969.

Sherk moved on to a successful NFL career with the Cleveland Browns, earning four Pro Bowls and the league’s defensive MVP (1976) in his 12-year career.
