GLENDALE, Ariz. — One jaw-dropping play by Russell Wilson helped salvage a night that may be most remembered for Richard Sherman’s resigned shaking of his head as he left the field midway through the third quarter.

Sherman was officially listed as injuring his heel on a tackle of Arizona’s John Brown with 5:20 to play in the third quarter of Seattle’s 22-16 win over Arizona.

But conjecture based in part on comments Sherman made on the sideline and caught by NBC TV cameras immediately grew that Sherman may have ruptured his Achilles tendon, which could sideline him for the rest of the season.

And the potential impact of that can hardly be overstated.

Sherman, simply one of the team’s best and most important players, had made his 99th straight start Thursday, a streak dating to the sixth game of his rookie season.

Sherman’s injury was just the most notable of a night in which the Seahawks rarely seemed to go more than a few plays without a player leaving the field.

But the Seahawks could at least console themselves that they got the win.

And the play that sealed it came with just over 13 minutes left when Wilson uncorked maybe the most daring escape of his career.

On second-and-21 from the Seattle 41, Wilson initially faked a handoff to J.D. McKissic then rolled left. As he did he felt pressure from two Arizona defenders. Drifting back to his own 28 Wilson threw it in the direction of Doug Baldwin (five receptions, 95 yards), who had ran to an open spot near the Arizona sideline after initially blocking for Wilson.

Baldwin leapt and caught the ball over Arizona safety Antoine Bethea and then sprinted down the sideline, finally caught at the 2-yard line by Budda Baker.

Wilson then tossed a 2-yard TD pass to Jimmy Graham on the next play and put the Seahawks up 22-10 with 12:49 to play. The TD was the second of the night for Graham and sixth of the season, tying his most as a Seahawk.

Wilson finished the game 22 for 32 for 238 yards and the two TD tosses to Graham.

Larry Fitzgerald caught 10 passes for 113 yards for the Cardinals, while running back Adrian Peterson was held to 29 yards on 21 carries.
