Chokers win both men’s and women’s dual meets

Grays Harbor College’s men wrestling team used five pinfall victories to fuel a comeback win at home against Warner Pacific University on Tuesday.

The Chokers win its first home dual meet of the season over the Knights by a final score of 34-21.

Caleb Smith got the meet off to a good start for Grays Harbor, pinning Connor Finch at the 1:16 mark to earn a win in the 125-pound division.

Grays Harbor dropped the next four consecutive matches before James Bell snapped the streak with a pin over Wyatt Kesler at 1:27 in the 165-pound weight class.

Down 21-6 halfway through the match, the Chokers made up ground in the heavier divisions and rattled off five straight wins, including four pins to earn the victory.

After Bell’s fall victory, the Chokers got pins from Matthew Alejandro, Ryan Olivas and Octavio Alejandre to close out the match and earn the team’s third victory of the season.

The women’s team also defeated Warner Pacific 34-9 on Tuesday.
