GIRLS PREP SOCCER

Aberdeen 1, Tenino 0

Aberdeen got a late goal from Emma Green and solid defense to record its first shutout of the season with a 1-0 victory over Tenino on Saturday at Stewart Field.

“This was a much improved performance for the girls in all aspects of the game,” Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming said. “They have worked so hard in some very frustrating losses and they deserved this win.”

With 15 minutes remaining in a scoreless tie, Aberdeen (2-3) broke through when Abbie Bradt started a push into Tenino’s defensive third with a through pass to Emmy Walsh, who then flicked the ball past the Tenino goalkeeper, who came far off her line. A Tenino defender then tried to clear, but sent the ball right to Green, who kicked it into the back of the net for the only goal of the game.

The Bobcats preserved the shutout by relying on a solid defense that consisted of defenders Chase Baller, Nayeli Morris, Elizabeth Martinez and Amiah Leach as well as freshman goalkeeper Charlize Guitierrez.
