WESTPORT — Ocosta scored twice in the final nine seconds to rally past Winlock in a non-league game Friday at Westport.

With his team down 10-0 with about 6:30 left in the game, Ocosta’s Cole Hatton hung onto the ball on an option for a 5-yard touchdown run.

The Wildcats (2-1) recovered a Winlock fumble on the kickoff and continued to drive the ball down the field. With nine seconds left in the game Kobe Beck caught a tipped pass from Cole Hatton for an 18 yard touchdown to give Ocosta the lead, 14-10.

“With four seconds to go we kicked off and they lateraled the ball and were throwing it around,” said Ocosta head coach Chris Raffelson. “Isaac O’Hagen picked up the ball on one of their laterals and scored with no time left on the clock to make it 20-10.”

Raffelson singled out the physical play of Brandon Thomas and Noah Martin on both sides of the ball. He also noted Beck’s 91 rushing yards and 57 receiving yards and Hatton’s performance at quarterback.

“Our offensive line stepped it up in the fourth quarter and that was what allowed us to pass and run the ball,” Raffelson said.

Defensively, Ocosta recovered four fumbles which Raffelson said helped change the game. Ocosta does have room for improvement inside the red zone as well as in tackling, according to Raffelson.

Ocosta (2-1) hosts South Whidbey on Friday, with the JV teams to play on Saturday.
