Ocosta boys win overtime thriller from Raymond

Allton’s late basket beats Raymond

RAYMOND — Zach Allton’s basket with 2.4 seconds remaining in overtime gave Ocosta an exciting win over Raymond in a Pacific 2B League game Wednesday night at Raymond.

Allton came off a screen from Paul Bjornsgard to hit a 10-footer for the deciding points in a contest that was nip-and-tuck throughout. Marcus Anderson’s last-second heave from just inside midcourt came off the front rim.

“We were right in his face and he just hit a great shot,” Raymond coach Mike Tully said. “That was the difference. They made their shots when they needed to and we didn’t.”

Earlier, Allton surpassed the 1,000-point mark in career scoring en route to a 20-point performance. Cole Hatton added 19 points and Kobe Beck 16 for the Wildcats (3-4, 5-4). Bjornsgard pulled down 17 rebounds, while Allton also contributed four assists and four steals.

“I’m real proud of my guys for stepping up physically after the Valley (loss) on Monday,” Ocosta coach Jason Quinby said. “We focused on being physical in practice the day before and felt it really paid off.”

Anderson topped Raymond (3-4, 4-5) with 18 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Kaci Phansisay, recovering from a knee injury, hit four 3-pointers for the Gulls en route to a 15-point performance. Devine Phansisay contributed three steals and six assists for Raymond.

Ocosta also canned 13-of-18 free throws, while Raymond was just 10-of-21 from the stripe.

The Wildcats visit Winlock tonight. Raymond will host its holiday tournament Dec. 28-29.
