OCEAN SHORES — Lake Quinault secured its first win of the season by staying patient at the plate to knock off North Beach in a non-league contest on Monday afternoon.

The Elks parlayed 13 walks from the Hyaks’ pitchers into runs, with starting pitcher Anthony DeMarco slugging two hits and two RBI. North Beach used five pitchers in the contest.

“They threw a lot of younger kids and they had some control problems,” Quinault head coach Keith Samplawski said. “That’s something we’ve dealt with in the past. Our kids were able to keep their control, especially with the weather conditions at the end of the game.”

Samplawski cited Allen Espinoza for his 4-for-4 on-base percentage and three runs scored and David DeLaCruz for his work behind the plate.

Today, Lake Quinault travels to Mary M. Knight in a Coastal 1B League doubleheader.

Bobcats 91, T-Birds 41

At Grays Harbor Country Club, Mari Rabung, Kate Slyter and Ryder Heikkila each finished with 19s to share medalist honors in Aberdeen’s Evergreen 2A League match win over Tumwater on Monday.

Playing within the Stableford Scoring System, the Bobcats all cracked 10 points, led by the medalist trio.

“It was a soggy, rainy, and windy round of golf,” AHS head coach Dan Sundstrom said. “No real sane person should have been golfing today. With those conditions, it was nice to see three girls with scores of 19. We did have a team goal to reach 100 and it was within reach.”

On April 10, Aberdeen returns to action against Hoquiam.

Aberdeen (91) — Mari Rabung 19, Haley Farrer 16, Emily May 18, Kate Slyter 19, Ryder Heikkila 19, Adri Roberts 14.
