Aberdeen’s Pratt wins at first day of sub-districts

BLACK HILLS — Aleeta Pratt is the lone remaining Bobcats player still vying for a spot in the district playoffs after the first day of play at the sub-districts tournament.

Pratt won the first match against Tumwater’s Kalee Hickey 6-0, 6-1 to advance to the second round, where she lost to Joel Chung from Chehalis 6-2, 6-4.

Pratt will now have to wait to see who she will face on the second day of sub-district play on Wednesday.

Aberdeen head coach Ashley Kohlmeier said Pratt looked good in the first match of the day but had trouble dealing with Chung’s aggressive style in the second match.

“Chung just had Aleeta’s number today,” she said. “Aleeta was going for too much and Joel was patient and forced her to make mistakes she doesn’t normally make.”

Aberdeen’s doubles pair of Sonia Dominguez and Rachel Tageant won their first match of the day but were eliminated from the tournament after two subsequent losses.
