BRUSH PRAIRIE — Breaking things open in the second half, second-ranked Hockinson ended Aberdeen season in the District IV Class 2A playoffs on Friday.

The game was closer than the lopsided score would indicate with Aberdeen only down 20-0 at halftime after making several fruitless trips to the red zone.

Aberdeen head coach Kevin Ridout said the score could have been much closer at halftime.

“We were able to move the ball,” he said. “We were probably in the red zone three times and whether it was penalty or whatever, we shot ourselves in the foot. It could have been 20-14 at halftime.”

After allowing 14 points in the first quarter and six points in the second, Hockinson got on a roll and put the game away with 19 points in the third quarter.

Hockinson had a lot of success moving the ball through the air and came away with 302 passing yards.

The team was also hampered by injuries that forced quarterback Ben Dublanko and wingback Zeiah Embry out for stretches. Dublanko returned, but Embry was not able to return with a possible torn ACL.

Aberdeen had 285 yards rushing as a team but could not find the end zone until Kylan Touch ran one in from 2 yards out in the fourth quarter. Touch also completed the two-point conversion pass to Dillen Espana.

Touch had 245 rushing yards in his last game as a Bobcat.

Despite the loss, Ridout was thankful for the hard work of his graduating seniors. Aberdeen finished the season at 4-6.

“I wold like to thank the seniors. We have some seniors going out who made us better and were very much a joy to coach,” he said. “We will miss them dearly.”
