Two Aberdeen singles players and a doubles team earn district tennis berths

OLYMPIA — Two Aberdeen singles players and a doubles team advanced in the Evergreen 2A Conference/Subdistrict Tennis Tournament that completed Saturday at the Steamboat Tennis and Athletic Club.

Aberdeen’s Ryan Solan and Luis Garcia, in singles, and the doubles team of Josh Germeaux and Cody Sayres qualified for district competition Friday and Saturday at Longview’s Mint Valley Racket Club. The top five in singles and doubles advanced to district.

Solan finished second in singles, falling to Black Hills’ top-seeded Gunner Nelson, 6-2, 6-2, in the championship match.

Garcia placed fourth in singles. He nailed down a district berth with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win over Chehalis’ Andrew Painter.

Germeaux and Sayres advanced at the expense of Aberdeen teammates Patric Haerle and Aaron Larsen. Sayres and Germeaux prevailed in a pair of tiebreakers, 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-4) before falling to Centralia’s Ben Corwin-Ryan Mack, 6-2, 7-5, in a seeding match to determine third and fourth places.

Haerle and Larsen then fell to a Tumwater duo, 6-3, 6-0, in a winner-to-district, loser-out affair. They wound up sixth and will be district alternates.

Aberdeen’s Harlan Troy wound up sixth in singles. He dropped a tight three-setter to Tumwater’s Cade Williams, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, in a district-qualifying contest.
