2B District IV Tournament

First Round

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 12, Morton-White Pass 2

The Titans scored 11 runs over the first three innings in a dominant 12-2 win over Morton-White Pass on Wednesday in the 2B District IV Tournament at Borst Park in Centralia.

PWV (17-4 overall) got their offensive onslaught started early as they scored four first-inning runs, three of which came with two outs.

In a game where hits came from up-and-down the lineup, PWV catcher Grace Hodel stood out with three RBI in the first two innings of play

The Titans also got a strong pitching performance out of Kamryn Adkins, who missed bats with seven strikeouts. The only blip on the radar came in the form of a two-run homer from Taylor Hazen in the third inning that gave the Timberwolves (15-8) their only runs of the game.

“I can’t say enough about how Kamryn (Adkins) came out and pitched today. She stepped up and threw a solid five innings and that’s something we needed,” Titans head coach Ken Olson said. “We hit the ball well and had a good approach at the plate, so I’m just looking forward to the next one.”

The next one for the Titans has been postponed due to rain until Saturday at 4 p.m. when PWV will take on Toutle Lake in the district semifinals.

Onalaska 11, Ocosta 5

Ocosta’s hopes of a district championship were quickly dashed as the Wildcats fell to Onalaska 11-5 in the first round of the 2B District IV Tournament on Wednesday.

Ocosta (11-10) fell behind 7-0 after an inning-and-a-half and couldn’t stop the bleeding long enough to mount a comeback. Trailing 7-1 in the top of the fourth, Onalaska (15-7) scored a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth frames to take a commanding 11-1 lead.

Down 11-2 in its final at-bat, Ocosta put a crooked number on the scoreboard, scoring three runs in the frame via the long ball.

Senior infielder Kaylee Barnum led off the inning with a blast to left field. Three batters later, Ocosta catcher Kristi Raffelson drove a pitch out past the left-field fence for a two-run dinger to close out the scoring at 11-5.

Barnum finished the game going 3-for-4 with a double and a home run to lead Ocosta.

Fletcher took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings pitched.
