Hoquiamite wins hoop shoot title

Jack Adams, a 12-year-old student at Hoquiam Middle School, won his age group in the state Elks Hoop Shoot on Saturday at Bellevue.

Making 22 of 25 free throws, Adams won the boys 12-13 age group and also received the trophy for the top male shooter in all classifications.

He will advance to regional competition March 3.

Free admission for GHC home finales

Spectators will be admitted free of charge to Grays Harbor College’s final basketball doubleheader of the season Wednesday night at Sam Benn Gym.

The Chokers will host Green River Community College in a co-ed doubleheader. The women’s game is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the men to follow at 8.

Sophomore Night will be observed for both GHC teams. A co-ed basketball game matching kindergarten through third-grade teams from the YMCA of Grays Harbor will be featured during halftime of one of the games.

The Chokers also will be partnering with the Hope4Hoopers program on a shoe drive that night. Spectators are invited to bring to the games new and slightly used athletic shoes that will be donated to need-based organizations locally and internationally.

Wednesday’s donors will be entered in a raffle drawing for T-shirts, a signed team basketball and other prizes.

Monte baseball registration planned

Registration for Montesano Babe Ruth/Legion baseball teams is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Montesano High School commons.

The programs are open to all players in the 13-15 age group. Further information may be obtained by contacting Paul Bialkowsky at 249-5674.

Poggies to meet Wednesday

The Grays Harbor Poggie Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hoquiam Elks Hall.
