We have arrived, but it’s nowhere we want to be

Dems play politics

I am struggling with how the current payroll tax deduction for FICA was approved, or even more insane, how it is being extended. The FICA tax is the funding source for Social Security. A fund, that has been in trouble for a long time. With the funding spigot now essentially turned off, the program is terminal.

We have always been told it was Republicans who wanted to destroy Social Security, but it’s Democrats driving the bus. Democrats, under Lyndon Johnson, got the bus rolling, moving Social Security funds from an independent “trust fund” to the general fund. It was Democrats who eliminated the income tax exemption for Social Security payments and then Democrats who started taxing Social Security benefits. It was Jimmy Carter and Democrats who granted immigrants, who had never paid into the system, annuity payments.

Now Democrats are putting the “kiss of death” on the program by cutting the funds that keep the system solvent.

Rather than addressing an impending federal budget disaster with real answers, balancing a budget, or job creation, Democrats are playing politics. Our economy has, within the past three months, crossed into critical stages, with the debt now equal to the GDP. We face a similar fate as Greece.

It is time to get past posturing and demand action and results from politicians. Cutting Social Security funding was done with the full intent of putting the program in immediate crisis for political purposes.

Democrats have been resourceful in creative “finger pointing”, and the gullible have bought the spin. In November that has to change. Voters have to vote liberal Democrats out and conservative Republicans have to show some guts, or we will be living, what we are watching on TV in other countries. We have arrived.
