Torgerson not chosen for Walla Walla job

Aberdeen Police Chief Bob Torgerson says he wasn’t chosen to lead the city of Walla Walla’s Police Department.

Torgerson had been one of three finalists for the post and traveled to Walla Walla last week for a series of interviews and meet and greets.

“I was the second pick, the silver medal if you will,” Torgerson said.

The chief said there’s still a chance he could get chosen for the post if the finalist doesn’t pass all of the necessary tests or decides to turn it down.

“This was a unique opportunity for me and it’s really nice to know that you have the skills and capabilities to be a chief other than where you’re working,” Torgerson said. “Walla Walla was a rare opportunity. They’ve had two chiefs in the last 60 years, an incredibly stable work place and stable economy, a downtown that is spectaular … and a new police station paid for with $13 million that the voters approved in 2009.”

Torgerson said he was one of about 70 applicants for the job. He says he’s still pleased to stay with Aberdeen and has no applications for other jobs pending.
