Two Ocean Shores police officers went to the hospital with minor injuries Tuesday night after breaking up a drunken fight between a 42-year-old Ocean Shores woman and her daughter, police said.
The Ocean Shores Police Department reported officers found the mother and her 24-year-old daughter physically fighting over allegations of theft from the home. Several other residents had also been involved in the altercation.
Officers Shaun Beebe and Paul Henderson responded to break up the fight. Henderson, who arrived shortly before Beebe, started to arrest the daughter when the mother allegedly intervened.
“(The) three of them fell to the ground,” police reported. “While trying to handcuff the daughter, the mother placed a leg lock around Henderson’s neck and began choking off his airway.”
The officer released the daughter to regain control of the mother and took her into custody. The daughter allegedly kicked him in the head before running away.
Beebe chased the daughter as she ran from the area. He caught her about a half block away, but she allegedly continued to struggle. Police reported the officer was bitten several times on the arm.
Officers from the Hoquiam Police Department and the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office responded to assist with the situation. Both women were booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail on suspicion of third-degree assault of a police officer.
The officers were taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital with minor injuries.
