Dear Godly People of Grays Harbor:
We are blessed to have wide variety of churches in our community. They are full of loving people led by faithful clergy. Give yourselves and your families the greatest gift imaginable — go find a church family where you will be loved and spiritually fed.
A group of these faithful churches are keeping alive one of the great traditions of Grays Harbor—the Lenten lunch and worship series. This Lenten tradition can be traced back to World War II. The community gathered once a week at a local church for a midday lunch followed by a short prayer service.
This year, Amazing Grace Lutheran, Aberdeen First Presbyterian, United Christian, Hoquiam United Methodist, and St. Andrew Episcopal will host these services. The schedule is listed below.
One of the great blessings that comes out of these Lenten events is that the lunches are donated, and the free will offering that is collected will be given to Coastal Harvest to be used to feed those in need throughout the community. Thanks be to God!
Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. The prayer service will begin promptly at noon and you will be on your way by 1 o’clock.
Lent is a 40-day period set aside by the church to ready ourselves for Easter — the most holy day of the year. The Book of Common Prayer says it better than I: “I invite you, therefore in the name of the Church to observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and by reading and meditation on God’s holy Words.”
Take time to make this Lent a time for reflection and preparation. Join us beginning on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22, and each Wednesday thereafter — with the concluding service on Good Friday.
May God bless you and your loved ones.
Fr. Dale McQueen is Rector of St. Andrew Episcopal Church.
