William John “Doc” Moorman went to meet the Great Commander on Jan. 16, 2019. He was born Dec. 16, 1925, to Henry and Elizabeth Moorman in New Hyde Park, New York, the third of four boys.

Doc was the chief corpsman, U.S. Navy and a regimental chief, U.S. Marine Corps. He served in WWII and Korea, spending most of his time in the Pacific Theater, setting up field hospitals. Doc loved hunting, fishing, boating, building (his home in Ocean City), playing poker and traveling as he and Louise spent many winters in Mazatlan.

In 2001, Doc married Margot Miller. They spent time traveling in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and some countries in Europe.

Doc went with Navy buddies to watch his ship, the USS Oriskany (first aircraft carrier around the horn) sunk off the Pensacola Coast as a diving reef in 2006.

He was a member of the Moose, the Elks, American Legion (Oriskany, New York), lifetime member of the VFW, KWVA and Marine Corps League.

Doc was given his last rites by Father Jack and he requested no other services. He will be buried at sea off an aircraft carrier out of Bremerton, Washington.

Survivors include his wife, Margot; two daughters, Debbie Requa of Olympia, Washington and Cindy (Rick) Radabah of Graham, Washington; his brother, John (Carol) Platt of Esperance, New York; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and Margot’s two daughters, Darci Wert of Battle Ground, Washington and Diana (Dale) Requa of Yacolt, Washington.
