Theresa Enrico died Nov. 29, 2018, at her Roslyn home. Her family was with her after caring for her lovingly the last years of her long life. Born Theresa Conroy June 16, 1925, in New York City, she came west on the North Coast Limited days after her marriage to Harold James Enrico (Jim) on St. Patrick’s Day, 1946. They married in New York City’s St. John Chrysostom Church a week after Jim was discharged from the Army. The couple met in Manhattan three years earlier, when the Army sent Jim, a Cle Elum man, to Columbia College for training.

Theresa embraced the West, becoming a westerner in her activities. She beachcombed, she hiked and camped with her family in the Olympics and Cascades. She learned to pick mushrooms from her Italian in-laws, developing an excellent eye for morels. With her family, Theresa explored the Teanaway from their cabin on the North Fork. Every summer she picked blackberries and huckleberries, which she baked into her famous pies. She gardened with passion and nurtured a raspberry patch that filled her backyard. Theresa explored the West and beyond; she especially loved visiting Italian cousins in Piedmont.

After spending the summer of 1946 in Cle Elum with Jim’s family, the couple moved to Seattle where Jim completed his University of Washington education that the draft had interrupted. They settled in Aberdeen where Jim taught at Grays Harbor College. In 1957 the couple and their five children moved to Cosmopolis. Theresa served as the Cosmopolis Elementary School librarian for 30 years. She promoted education and reading throughout her life, serving on the board of the Friends of the Roslyn Library for years. In 1998 Theresa and Jim moved to Roslyn to live in the house that their son, Dino, built for them.

Theresa was the daughter of John Franklin Conroy and Anna Cummings Conroy who had nine children. Theresa has outlived her siblings. Her husband preceded her in death in 2008. She is survived by her children: John Enrico, Marie Fischer (Bob), Lea Beardsley (Roger), Chris Enrico, Dino Enrico (Leslie), and two grandsons, Brendan Beardsley (Tiffany) and Owen Steward, and two great-grandchildren, Baxter and Clara Beardsley.

Private services are scheduled. Donations in Theresa’s memory may be made to the Friends of the Roslyn Library, PO Box 399, Roslyn, WA 98941.
